I retired from teaching in 2004 in my early 60’s. I was always creative, I didn’t know it, but I was always creative, but ever since high school and college I was always on an academic track and I never entertained the idea of picking up a paint brush because it just didn’t fit in with the schedule I was on as terms of getting my diplomas and degrees, etc.
My dad did a few paintings and I remember thinking I can do that for reasons that made no sense at all because I had never picked up a brush. However when I retired from teaching and my daughter gave me a set of brushes, it opened a whole new world for me. I retired from teaching in 2004, and I have been painting ever since. This will be 20 years and I love it!
Some artists have a certain style, and I am a little all over the map. But what I do like is the color that will pull you in or the subject matter that will pull you in. There is something vistaril. It could be the look in someone’s eye, something that creates a memory, the subject matter. The color in particular, warm colors that draw you in.
